The complex has nine mines, located along the northern border of the Serra da Jacobina mountain range. Work is currently being concentrated in the Coitezeiro mine. The average Cr2O3 content for lump chromite is 38%, while for the other types (friable, ribboned and disseminated) it is 18%.
The mining method used for the mines in the Campo Formoso region is open pit mining, with mechanical dismantling and blasting. The lump ore is extracted from the cut and transported to the selection patio for further crushing and shipment to the metallurgy operation, in Pojuca.
